History of LAX

The LAX is an important part of the city of Los Angeles and has a long and illustrious history behind it. Earlier known as the Mine Fields prior to it being shot into the public domain, the Los Angeles International Airport is one of the biggest airports in the world in terms of passenger traffic and is one of the most state of the art facilities of its kind in the United States of America. This airport has a long history and is indeed one of the oldest standing facilities of this nature. Prior to it being open for commercial use, this place was actually used as a military base before commercial air transit here began post the period of 1946. However later with developments made in the 1980s the new terminals opened and the airport was then open for international traffic. The first ever jet plane landed here in 1959 which connected New York with this city and this was followed with the incursion of the 747s in the late seventies.

Interestingly, this is a place which creates one of the highest amounts of jobs in the region of Southern California which is to the tune of 59,000 jobs which is down right amazing. In spite of the fact that this place does have civil facilities, there is a joint military base which still operates here where the United States Coast Guard does house their line of Helicopters in this place. LAX is one of the rare airports in the USA which actually accepts flights from all the major international airlines from the world.

In terms of logistics, LAX is definitely top of the line wherein it does provide excellent hospitality for the passengers with the numerous special hotels which are present in this area. This place is actually located quire outside the city center in the great LA area however; the location makes this place very well connected to all the major Los Angeles attractions of the nature like the obvious one Hollywood and Griffith Park etc. However it is interesting to note that in spite of the fact that although the services in this airport are top notch, this is actually not the only airport which is available in this city which sees a huge rush of passengers.

What one might not know is that the main theme building of this place was actually designed to resemble a UFO landing on its four feet and is accompanied with a futuristically designed airport restaurant which is a big draw. In fact this airport is so much frequented by visitors that recently the establishment had to limit the number of people who were walking in through the gates. This place has well and truly become one of the landmarks of the city due to its construction and the sheer magnanimity of the place. However, it has been reported that the facilities are down to a certain extent but there has been work commissioned for this airport such that it can be brought back to its glory days yet again.
